Technology programs for the Wheeled Combat Vehicle (WCV) 8x8 support the development of this new Spanish combat vehicle, for which five prototypes have been manufactured at the factory. Since design and performance are quite defined, the idea is to carry out test-firing with the first two demonstrators in early July.
This program, with a first-phase budget of €2.1 billion, will create at least 650 direct jobs and about 1,000 indirect jobs, and also give a considerable boost to the supply chain. The defense industry generates quality employment and uses avant-garde technology. The contract for manufacture of these vehicles includes the serial production of 348 vehicles, which are to be delivered in the first quarter of 2022. After this phase, there should follow a second and third manufacturing phase, followed by a life cycle entailing a workload of at least 40 years. This is a major project.
